Mormon Musicians

Mormon musicians

Mormon communities boast a great deal of musical talent. Some musicians such as David Archuleta, Alex Boye and BYU Vocal Point are widely celebrated across the globe.

However, others have made their mark quietly: Artists such as Caleb Spjute, Scott & Ryceejo, Yahosh Bonner and Sugar Sop are just a few examples.

LDS Music

Mormon music is an expressive form of Christian worship music that adheres to the beliefs and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This style typically features both vocal and instrumental pieces, often performed during religious services and events, with members learning how to embrace music’s beauty as a form of lifelong expression.

The church has an illustrious musical legacy dating back to Kirtland and Nauvoo. Since then, its musical practice has expanded through several phases; these include sacred music used during worship services; social music enjoyed recreationally or recreationally; as well as formal musical training provided through its academy program.

Music from LDS artists ranges from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir to modern DJs like Kaskade, with some even reaching national chart success. By including such genres in your home, you can help foster talent development while giving children exposure to different kinds of music from around the globe.

Classical Music

Are You Searching For New Ways To Play Your Hymns Or Classical Music Performances? Look no further! LDS musicians offer you just that and more, from popular Mormon guitar channel MOGCO to all-male classical group GENTRI. Their musical talent illuminates our world!

Classical music refers to any Western art music style rooted in the classical tradition–i.e. the period that saw composers such as Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven developing musical norms that define this genre. “Classical” also refers to any instrumental or orchestral work performed by large ensembles that adheres to this musical legacy.

Assumptions about LDS classical artists often center on David Archuleta, Claire Ryann and Lindsey Stirling when speaking of “classical”, but there’s far more diversity within this category than meets the eye. BYU Vocal Point, Caleb Spjute and Yahosh Bonner are among many notable LDS classical performers making an impactful statement as part of LDS music’s classical genre; among many more LDS artists that may or may not have come to your attention yet.

Rock Music

Mormon musicians have earned widespread renown for their talent in rock music. These artists use their music as an outlet for spiritual inspiration; such as Gladys Knight or Tyler Glenn who have made their mark. Here are a few other Mormon musicians that have left an indelible mark in music:

From 1876 to 1926, the Church operated academies dedicated to teaching secular subjects including music. Teachers in these academies included Mormon immigrants trained at English or Continental music schools; local residents with musical talent; as well as those graduating from BYU or LDS College music schools.

The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square is an incredibly large collegiate male choir drawn from across the United States who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. All choir members must pass an exhaustive audition and commit themselves to acting as missionaries within their ward during their tenure in this choir.

Alternative Music

The Salt Lake Tabernacle Choir is one of the premier musical institutions in Utah music. Since 1893, this international choir has performed at Temple Square’s Tabernacle as both a tourist draw and during biannual general conference broadcasts.

The choir at Trinity United Church boasts 300 members from around the globe – many renowned singers. As an integral component of its public relations and proselytization efforts, and as an important source of spiritual inspiration and uplifting music for listeners worldwide.

Lindsey Stirling and Claire Ryann are two other well-known Mormon musicians, respectively violinist Lindsey Stirling and pop singer Claire Ryann. Lindsey recently enjoyed a very productive year by releasing her Christmas album and placing second on Dancing With the Stars respectively.

Ryan Raddon, better known by his stage name DJ Kaskade, is another Mormon rock ‘n’ roll musician with an extremely successful rock ‘n’ roll career. A committed member of the Church himself, his stadium-filling performances make him an audience favourite worldwide and make for a highly lucrative music producer and performer career.
